Buying scrap gold
A couple of months ago, I visited the annual jewellery fair in town to get presents for my mother and my sister. There were hundreds of people at the fair and much more jewellery sellers than usual. There was even a man who was selling scrap gold. He had so many interesting items that people bought his jewellery not to resell it but to fix and wear it or give it as presents to their family members or friends. I came nearer to see what was there on his table. Well, there was a beautiful old necklace with several layers of silver ornaments and stones - malachites or agates, I suppose. The necklace lacked some of the stones but it was generally in a good condition. There was also a beautiful silver ring with an ornament that looked like gold, or perhaps it was just another type of silver. The man also had a gold bracelet with tiny white spotted amazon stones. The fastening was broken but the bracelet was still beautiful. The man said that he had bought it in Mexico thirty years before. He never wanted to sell it as scrap gold, but now he had some problems and decided to sell all his jewellery. I did not hesitate long. I took the money out of my wallet and bought the bracelet. I decided to have it fixed and give it as a present to somebody I really liked.
